Glamour Modelling and You
Glamour modelling is well, the most glamourous form of modelling perhaps. The results of a glamour shoot are incredible, leaving us wondering what planet the beautiful model is from. The model and the product are turned into luxurious icons of cosmic beauty. Now, there are many tricks involved in glamour modelling, many are confused by the viewer who takes unrealistic notions from the photos that they, themselves, should look like the model. Many forget the level of photo shopping and graphic manipulation involved and take the pictures literally. This is not the person’s fault. This type of advertising only started in our parents’ lifetimes and our brains don’t evolve quickly enough to see the difference between reality and, well, fairy tales. The point I’m coming round to is, if you want to become a glamour model, it’s about the business more than it is about your look. To get these types of modeling jobs is not easy. More and more people are turning to modeling as a ‘quick fix’ to the stagnant wages and austerity of today, which can only mean one thing. There are the same number of modeling jobs, and a lot more potential models competing for them. To set yourself apart from the crowd, you don’t need to be the thinnest, wear the most make up, or have the nicest shoes. Does that surprise you? It shouldn’t. A model wears and looks how they are told, and how they are made up on set – they don’t dress themselves. Many famous models are given their clothes by fashion houses and have sponsorship contracts that tell them what to wear and when. It can be very constrictive, even though on the face of it this sounds like every girl’s dream! Read the IMAGE Models blog for more tips and advice!
So to set yourself apart, be professional about it. Make a plan – the same as you would with any ambition. Step 1 might be to get practice and start building a name for yourself in a local setting. Can you get photography experience from your local newspaper, can you be a test subject for a fashion course at your local college? These types of smaller jobs will give you the platform that can help agencies and their clients see you as a more realistic option for their modeling jobs and assignments. Once you have some work experience, make sure the right people know about it and in the right way. Develop your email skills, don’t use slang and address people properly. As a model, you are your own manager even if you have an agency. To look at current assignments in and around London, visit the IMAGE Models website.
